Water chestnut is a floating leaved aquatic plant. Use the identification techniques and images to help distinguish water chestnut from other aquatic plants.
  • Leaves of water chestnut are green, triangular and between two and three inches wide. They have a glossy sheen and toothed edges.

  • The leaf-stalks of the floating leaves have air bladders and form a rosette on the water's surface.

  • In July, water chestnut produces white flowers and later generates thorny, spiked nutlets.
