Through public education, community outreach, and providing high-quality resources to stakeholders, APIPP works to help grow awareness and shift behaviors to protect local lands and waters for future generations:

BOOT BRUSH STATIONS 

One way that invasive plants and worms can spread to forests, wetlands, and meadows is by hitchhiking on our shoes, gear, vehicles, and pets as we hike and bike. Using something as simple as a boot brush station to clean footwear before and after a hike can limit the spread of invasive species. Install boot brush stations at your organization's trailhead or headquarters and engage the public in invasive species education and prevention. Download a template sign to customize, explore building instructions, and find a station near you on our Boot Brush Station Resource Page. 

CLEAN DRAIN DRY 

APIPP supports Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI)’s Boat Stewards Program working to staff priority boat launches, inspection and decontamination stations throughout the Park. Find a Boat Wash Station here!

FREE OUTREACH BROCHURES & POSTERS 

APIPP wants you to have what you need to grow awareness in your community, identify species impacting our region, and teach others about preventing the spread of invasive species. Free educational posters, brochures, and rack cards are available for businesses, not-for-profits, municipalities, schools, and volunteers in the APIPP PRISM service area. For smaller quantities, groups outside of New York State, and for digital use, all of these items are available for free download on APIPP’s Online Resource Library.

INVASIVE SPECIES AWARENESS WEEK 

Featuring activities ranging from paddling trips, weed pulls, scavenger hunts, webinars, citizen science trainings, and film screenings, ISAW is week-long event coordinated by New York State’s Invasive Species Council, Invasive Species Advisory Committee, eight PRISMs, and partners. Through the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, APIPP is a proud partner of PlayCleanGo, a North America-wide effort to promote awareness, understanding, and cooperation among the general public recreating outdoors.
